Hey, guys! It’s been a few months. I’m back at home, camera in hand, and able to start posting photos of my work. This is the first item I’ve cross stitched. It’s a bookmark with the German sentence, “Verpiss dich, ich lese.” I was hoping someone would ask me what it meant while I had a book out. The conversation would go something like this:

I’ve been working on piecing and sewing together a crochet project today. I’ve noticed how easy it is to look at the tiny details of the piece where you’re not sure where to push in a sewing needle or how to lay down excess yarn, or where you may have made a mistake and can’t be nerved to go back and fix. It’s too easy to focus on these pieces and not have a good view of the whole picture.
I’m finally getting into the habit of looking at my projects from someone else’s eyes. I am human who creates individual pieces, not a machine designed to create duplicates. I may do a neat job, but never will I produce a technically perfect piece. And that’s okay. That’s a unique character of my projects. And anyway, I’m the only one who will notice my mistakes. Everyone else is looking at the colors, patterns, and the item as a whole.
I just wanted to bring this up to any other crafters who may have stumbled onto my Tumblr. I thought it may be helpful to others. Everyone should feel confident with their work at any skill level.

Crocheted cheeseburger potholders. Yes, each piece is a separate holder. :3
Christmas was a few weeks ago. I didn’t get to give as many people gifts as I would like, but I’ve been wanting to make up for it with unique D.I.Y. projects. My boyfriend and I have finally given our friend this particular project, so I can share it without being afraid of her stumbling upon my crafty Tumblr!

Hi. Mein Name ist Holly. I’m a 20-year-old who plays saxophone terribly in front of other musicians and hasn’t had a slice of bacon in over seven years. I’m attempting to spend my life making indie films or documentaries. I’m also an angry little feminist. I mean little in multiple ways; my body averages around 105 lbs and 5’3 at any given time, no matter how much pizza I eat.
I have been doing some sort of craft at any given time throughout my life. As someone who doesn’t GAF about the judgement of others more so than ever before, the amount of D.I.Y. I attempt is skyrocketing to ridiculous. I’ve made this blog in an attempt to chronicle it all. I hope that with this medium, I can introduce others to different forms of creating pieces they can easily use in their daily life.
D.I.Y. is a hobby anyone can get into easily and successfully if they have the right tools and resources at hand. It’s also rewarding to realize the item you’re wearing/using/looking at/gifting to a friend has been produced using your own two hands, especially when you’re satisfied with the outcome. It also can be used in an act of activism to avoid sweatshops and disassociate yourself with the evils of capitalism. Whether you’re looking into D.I.Y. for the personal benefits, the outcome of your work, or even just to pass some time, you’ll find great satisfaction in the hobby/lifestyle.
Craft on!
